Imagery

Relaxation Techniques Imagery One common way to make you relax is to imagine a scene, event or place that you always remember as happy, warm, peaceful, safe, restful and beautiful. As well as imagining the place you should also imagine senses such as smells and noises. For example, the smell of flowers the noise of gentle waves from the sea. Imagery can also be used to help you prepare for unexpected events that could happen in an interview. What you should do is imagine that you are having an interview and the interviewer asks you something that you are not expecting, you should prepare a response to it in your imagination, that way when it comes to the real interview you already have something prepared that will help you.

Individual assessment

Individual Assessment The individual assessment normally consists of you being given a case study on a company and you are asked to decide on certain things for that company. Normally they also give you certain restrictions like not to talk to anyone else in the room, completing it in 30 minutes and even only writing your answers on one side of a A4 sheet of paper. Therefore, the first thing you should do is read the questions being asked and then read through the case study. Remember most of the information given is irrelevant so try to read through it highlighting the important parts that will help you answer the questions. With this exercise there is normally no definite right answer, you are assessed on your way of thinking and if you back up your answers. With this assessment you must always be aware of the time so ensure that you have your watch next to you and make deadlines for yourself. For example, allowing only 10 minutes for reading, then 10 minutes for writing, then another 10 minutes for checking. Thus, when it comes to writing your answer quickly jot down the main things you need to address first and then fully answer each question in order. You may also be required to do some calculations and provide some figures so try to keep your workings and figures together. This will allow the assessors to clearly follow your way of working. When you have completed the case study allow enough time to read through your answers and make sure you have answered everything fully.

Interview

The Interview Itself Once you are in the interview room sit down where the interview advices you to sit and remember your body language. Do not cross your legs or arms, keep an opened body language by keeping your feet and knees together and your hands resting on the armchair or on your lap. Then most interviews are broke up into four ... the introduction, employer sell, candidate sell and the close. The introduction will consist of the interviewer making you feel at ease and creating a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. They might just ask if you got there okay or something about the weather. Just reply positively even if you did have problems getting there and with a friendly smile. Then the interviewer will go on to sell the company and the job that you are applying for. Make sure at this stage that you make eye contact and listen to everything that ... is saying because they may ask you something about what they were talking about. Now it is your turn to sell yourself. The interviewer will ask numerous questions on your qualifications, work experience and anything else that they feel is relevant. Therefore it is vital that you remember the ... Make frequent eye contact, do not stare down when answering questions Remember your body language. Do not fidget, sit still and use opened body language Take your time and be concise when answering questions. It is perfectly fine to take a moment and think before you answer a question. Use specific examples when talking about strengths, weaknesses or teamwork Think about what language you use. For example, try to "yes" instead of "yeah" Try not to interrupt or contradict the interviewer Never say anything bad about a previous employer Answer the question that is actually asked, if you are not sure then ask for clarification Do not lie about any aspects of your education or work experience Always ask your own questions at the end of the interview. Always find out what will happen after the interview, e.g. when will they contact you. Then the interview will come to a close. Make sure at the close that you thank the interviewer for their time and shake their hand.

Online job application form

Online Application Form When organizations start recruiting for their graduate schemes they put an awful amount of time and effort into getting the right people for the job. They start off by asking candidates to apply on line by filling out an on line application form. The application form basically asks you specific questions on yourself and in relation to the job or graduate scheme you are applying for. It basically asks you everything that is in your CV but in more detail. However, do not make the mistake of repeating everything that is in your CV!! This will definitely not get to you the next stage in the recruitment process! You need to think carefully about each question that you answer. Try and relate the question to the way the company work and the beliefs that they adopt. Thus, it would be extremely beneficial to visit the company website and gather all the information that you can before you fill in the application. This way you can use the information that you have gathered. But again do not just copy and paste everything off the website because they will know this and it will not show to them that you have the competency and potential to put things into your own words and ideas. Remember even at this early stage companies choose not to take applications further so you must answer each question fully and brilliantly! A good way to answer a question is to firstly repeat the question, e.g. I chose to apply for Technical Consultant Role on the ... Graduate Scheme ... By answering each question like this it shows your attention to detail and professionalism. Although this seems like a tedious thing to do it is not! You would be amazed how little things like this will give you a better chance at your application being taken further. When you have completed the application just remember to check it on word for any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors and then submit it! Now remember large companies have literally thousands of applications to look through so do not expect an immediate reply to your application. Normally, what happens is that if you receive an email back saying that your application is being considered then you are probably through to the next stage in the recruitment process which is the Telephone Interview

Telephone interview

Telephone Interview As the name suggests this is basically just an interview over the telephone. This has the advantage of keeping costs low for both sides. When you have passed they previous recruitment stage the company phone you to say that you have been successful. They ask you what date and time would suit you to have the telephone interview, so make sure that you are not working or busy when you confirm a date and time with them. They then email you to confirm the date and time once more. When it comes to the telephone interview you have to be extremely prepared! You will need to know all about the company and their core businesses because they will ask you questions on this. As well as questions on the company they will ask you roughly about 15 questions where you need to provide practical examples of something that you did. For instance, they may ask you to ... a situation where you provided excellent customer ... When answering this question there are 3 rules that you must ... State what situation you are going to talk about e.g. I am going to talk about when I provided excellent customer service in my part time job with ... company you work ... Describe what happened fully and clearly Lastly and most importantly state what the outcome of the situation was e.g. I received an Outstanding Service Award from my company because the customer was so pleased with my level of ... It is crucial that you use these 3 rules for every question that you answer especially the last part. You will be asked a range of questions like this where you always need to provide an example so take time to think about the question and make sure that your example relates to the question. Also, remember that the example does not always have to be about university work or your current employer, it could be about your social life, for example, a night out you organized for a group of your friends! This may seem inappropriate but there is a lot of communication, organizing and responsibility involved in preparing for a night out with a large number of people like booking the venue, making sure the venue and the food suits everyone as well as the price. Also collecting money and people trusting you with their money. All of these tasks show what you are capable of so do not be scared of using examples like this. There are also a few guidelines to remember when having a telephone ... Use a proper and polite manner on the telephone Do not rush to answer the question, think it over first of all and take your time to answer it. May be a good idea to have a pen and paper at hand just to note down the main points of the question. This will save you asking to repeat the question. When answering the question always begin with an introduction to what you are going to discuss, then the actual example and then always remember the most important part ... the outcome of this example. When all the questions have been asked thank the person for their time and ask when you will find out the result. Finally, when the telephone interview is over they will contact you via email to say whether you have reached the next stage or not. The next stage being the Assessment Centre

Yoga

Relaxation Techniques Yoga Many people today turn to yoga to help them deal with stress and become completely relaxed. Yoga helps you to reach your goals and have a clearer mind, which ultimately is required when you go for an interview. Yoga tries to make the breathing deep, rhythmic and effective. By doing so, messages and thoughts are delivered more effectively when your body is relaxed and your brain is well oxygenated. Also. by doing yoga your body becomes more flexible and improves muscles, posture and skin tone. Thus, a yoga class would benefit you tremendously before an interview. You can either go to a local class with a professional or buy a professional DVD on yoga.
