interview day

Day of the Interview

On the day of the interview it is important to remember the following:

  • Dress appropriately

The best thing to wear is a suit, shirt, tie, blouse or plain top. Remember no flamboyant colors or anything flashy. You want to stand out but not with what you are wearing!

  • Take appropriate documents to the interview

When going to an interview you should always take a couple of copies of your CV/Resume, references details, samples of any previous work achievements and lastly pen and paper just in case you need to write anything down. taking all of these will make you look organized and professional.

  • Allow plenty of time to travel to the interview

Ensure that you give yourself enough time to get to the interview and also allow for unforeseen circumstances such as traffic, public transport delays etc.

  • Arrival at interview

Arrive at the interview 15 minutes before the interview, report to the reception and politely inform them who you are there to see. Take a seat and if the receptionist offers you a drink then take it - it will calm you down. Also, if there are any newspapers or company magazines next to then pick them up and have a read through, even if you are not reading them just look at the pictures because this will also calm you down and make you look at ease. Another tip that is good to remember is to keep your hand opened and resting on the armchair. This way it will be well aired and dry when it comes to shaking hands because you do not want your hand to be sweaty or moist when it comes to meeting the interviewer so do not clench your hand up.

  • First Impressions

When the interviewer comes to meet you stand up, smile, shake their hand firmly but not too hard and make eye contact. Say “ Good morning or Good afternoon, pleased to meet you.”
