Preparation for Interview
In order to have a successful interview, it is vital that you prepare well beforehand. There are various things that need to be considered:
- Phone the organization and confirm your attendance for the interview. Also ask for directions and parking facilities for when you arrive.
- Find out who is interviewing you and what to expect at the interview. For example, will there by any tests, more than one interviewer, presentation etc
- Fully research the organization. Find out all relevant facts about the company, history, revenue etc. Also find out about current news and events about the organization.
- Look at the the job specification and your application form again. From the job specification pick out the key skills and qualifications that they are looking for and mention each of these at the interview.
- Anticipate what questions are going to be asked. For example, your strengths, weaknesses, what attracted you to the company? These are all questions that you can prepare before you go to the interview. So just make a few notes on each question you can think of.
- Plan what you are wearing. Make sure that it is clean, smart and simple and that there are no buttons missing or loose hems.
- Plan the journey to the interview. Check out train, bus times, local taxi numbers or car parking facilities. Make sure there will be no obstacles that will prevent you from arriving on time. Also, plan another route for the unexpected problems or delays that may occur.
- Gather information that you will need at the interview. Up to date CV, references, certificates or anything else that is required for the job.
