Meditation
Meditation enables you to consciously relax your body by focusing your thoughts on one thing for a period of time. This techniques works by doing the following:
- Sitting quietly, comfortably close your eyes
- Then relax the muscles in your feet then slowly work your way up the body until all muscles are relaxed
- Start to focus your attention on your breathing
- Breathe in deeply and let it out again. Count your breaths by saying the number after each one. This will prevent you from being distracted
- Do this exercise for 10 or 20 minutes
If you do not want to concentrate on your breathing then you can focus on other things such as an object, sound or imagery. An object you could focus on could be anything even a tea cup. You just have to concentrate on every aspect of that object like the dimensions, shape, texture or color. You could also focus on your own sounds that you make or even just imagine a pleasant and relaxing place.
By using this method your mind is focused on something else so you do not think about stressful things like interviews.
